2008 - 2009 Storm Chase Reports

Temperatures soared into the high 30s on New Year's Day bringing a great lightning show!

A hot day with many hours in the sun...finally gives way to a very photogenic (but destructive) squall line.

A supercell developed late in the afternoon and gave a great lightning display near Ipswich.

A weekend chase into Wide Bay produces some nice storms.

Two short chases...from some spectacular sunset lightning to being blinded by torrential rain and 110km/h winds!

Some impressive coastal and offshore supercells developed on this day in high shear and very coastal instability.

Another HP supercell developed a line of storms bringing a magnificant gust front!  What a chase!

A HP supercell near Inglewood eventually turned into a large thunderstorm complex bringing 250mm in just a few hours to parts of SE QLD causing flood chaos!

Brisbane's most damaging thunderstorm in 23 years - damage in the hundreds of millions...

A small but nice storm became supercellular briefly in the Northern Rivers of NSW.

Some great storms this day - many supercells with plenty of large hail!  We had one large storm which produced some beautiful gusters over the Northern Rivers.

An incredible HP supercell moved NW from Rathdowney to eventually hit Ipswich - bringing hail the size of tennis balls!

This was some of the best supercell structure that I've ever seen!  A chase that will surely be remembered for many years to come...

Just a week after the first chase of the season came the first supercell of the season!  Nicely contrasted and well striated, it packed a good punch in Kilcoy!
